Middle School
Whereas students in the lower grades are learning foundational skills, students in the middle school now use these techniques in order to further their knowledge base. Understanding the mechanics of reading, our students read in order to learn. Dissecting the author’s purpose, analyzing a book’s plot, critically evaluating a written piece, and developing a concise point of view are skills our middle school students routinely use. These skills are not exclusive to language arts, but rather utilized throughout the school day in their core area classes. Science labs, interdisciplinary projects, research and then writing a term paper all help our students to think about and understand the world around them. Students use their computer as a productivity tool, learning Google, Microsoft, and Apple platforms. Additionally, outlining, note taking, developing a study schedule, and researching are actively taught to our middle school students in preparation for high school.
