Intermediate Grades 3-5
The Intermediate Department continues to further the student development established in the primary grades. Students in the intermediate grades continue to learn foundational concepts in order to enhance their general funds of knowledge. Students continue to work on skills such as reading strategies, the automaticity of math facts, and the critical steps for writing paragraphs; however, they also begin to develop higher level critical thinking skills. Students examine their general funds of knowledge in order to construct new meaning in what they learn. They analyze, evaluate, form conclusions, and compare/contrast information in order to gain a deeper understanding of information presented. Teaching students personal responsibility continues in the intermediate grades. Our students are taught test taking strategies, how to manage their time, organizational methods, note taking, and study skills in order to prepare for middle school.
