Student Atctivities
Standardized tests
The Iowa Assessments (IA) is administered to all students in grades K-8 in March or April. In addition, the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT) is administered to grades 2, 5, and 7. Results are mailed to parents in May or early June.
Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education (ARK)
The Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education Assessment (ARK/Assessment of Religious Knowledge) is administered to students in grades K-8. This test is designed to compile data on the effectiveness of the Catholic religion program. The test will be administered in the spring of each year.
Extended Care programs
Before school and after school care is available every day. School is in session from 7:00 am until 6:15 pm. Specific guidelines and expectations will be given to those who are interested. A fee is charged. Students are automatically enrolled. The flexible program allows for weekly or daily use.
Safety Patrol
Safety patrol members are chosen from grades 5-8. The patrol students must demonstrate a sense of responsibility and a willingness to serve, as well as maintain a passing grade average. The Patrol helps with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. Morning duty is from 7:35 to 8:00, and afternoon duty is from 3:10 to 3:35.
Student Council
The Student Council consists of 2 elected representatives from each homeroom in grades 6-8, and 3 elected officers from grades 7 and 8. The Student Council meets each week to discuss issues of concern to student life.
Birthday celebrations
Students in grades Pre-K 4 through 2 may wish to celebrate their birthday by sharing a treat in class. Please contact your child's teacher in advance.
Students in grades 3-8 may choose to share a treat with their classmates during their lunch period. All treats should be very simple - cupcakes, cookies, etc.
Religion Bee/Spelling Bee/Oratorical Contest
The school conducts contests in these areas for students at various grade levels. Winners compete at the Archdiocesan level and beyond.

Oratorical Contest - Grades 6-8
Yearbook
In May, students will be given a yearbook containing class pictures and candid pictures of activities throughout the year.
Book Fair
The library hosts a Book Fair twice a year in the spring and fall. Paperback books and other items can be purchased. Proceeds are used for the continued improvements to the school library.
Summer reading
Students in grades 2-8 are assigned selected readings for the summer. Students will review these books in class in the fall.
Summer math
Students in grades 2-8 are assigned math work during the summer.
Catholic Schools’ Week
A whole week of celebration highlights our uniqueness and special qualities as a Catholic school, with each day having a special event. Activities will be announced to invite your participation. This event takes place in January.
TAG Day
One day each month is designated as TAG Day. The students may wear regular clothes to school. (See section on Dress Code for out-of-uniform policy.) This privilege will cost the student one can of food for the church food pantry, and $1.00.
